validates_uniqueness_of helper validates that the attribute's value is unique before the object gets saved.

It may happen that two differernt database connections create two records with the same value for a column that you wants to be unique.

There is a :scope option that can be used to specify other attributes that are used to limit the uniqueness check.

example
----------

class Holiday < ActiveRecord::Base

validates_uniqueness_of :name , :scope =>'year', :message => 'should happen once in a year ' .


end
